Two Green Men · North Perth

About us

I'm Jake, local Perth boy and very proud founder of Two Green Men.

This business is my ever-evolving creative outlet, built around a fascination with plants and the possibilities they hold. At TGM, we are a team obsessed with the shape and structure of each individual plant, and how we can work with its natural character to create something beautiful. My travels in Japan have shaped much of that approach, inspiring the botanical artistry that runs through what we do.

Creativity & connection

I want to make that experience accessible to more people, including those who might never have considered themselves interested in plants. There’s something deeply satisfying about making something with your hands, watching it grow and learning to care for it. Through everything we create and teach, we hope to bring nature into people’s homes and encourage a connection that becomes part of their everyday lives.

Our North Perth studio

Our North Perth studio is where it all comes together. Workshops are at the heart of what we do, complemented by a carefully chosen retail offering, gifting and commercial services. We put a great deal of ourselves into everything we make and teach. My hope is that you leave with something you love, and enough curiosity to keep exploring.

From the backyard to North Perth

Our story

  1. The beginnings

    Every Second Sunday

Two Green Men began in my backyard, where my original business partner James and I spent our time propagating succulents, making succulent bowls and playing table tennis while scheming up a side hustle. Our first idea was called “Every Second Sunday”: a fortnightly succulent sale with a fairly self-explanatory name.

  2. 2020 onwards

Markets & a leap of faith

Before long, we were just as interested in indoor plants. We built a shadehouse in Perth’s north, learnt a few expensive lessons and, in early 2020, began trading at Bayswater Growers Market. Then COVID arrived. Those Saturday mornings became some of our most formative years: four hours each week talking to people about plants, testing our creations and finding out what people responded to.

The pandemic also gave me time to think about what I wanted from my working life. I decided to leave the corporate world and give Two Green Men a proper go. James continued with the more grown-up pursuits of making money, getting married and starting a family. I went all in on plants, starting a small cleaning business at night to help fund the dream.

  3. The Floreat years

    A new direction

Our first pop-up shops followed at Floreat Forum, in the suburb where I grew up. There were lockdowns, very quiet days and plenty of moments when I wondered whether we’d make it. But Floreat was also where we started selling terrariums. They were an instant hit. Seeing people’s faces light up drew me further into botanical art, and it wasn’t long before I wanted to teach people how to make their own.

  4. November 2022 – March 2023

    A home of our own

We needed room for that next chapter. In November 2022, I found our North Perth home and fell for it immediately. Our first workshops began in March 2023. I’d imagined running perhaps one small class a month.

  5. Today

    Workshops at the heart

After a slow start, workshops gradually took over the calendar and much of the shop floor. People loved getting their hands dirty, learning something new and creating something of their own. I loved seeing what they made. One workshop led to another, and these days we usually run four full sessions each weekend, welcoming people from across Perth and much further afield.

The people behind the plants

Still growing

Today, we’re a small team: me, my partner Oscar and our resident terrarium master, Orlando. It’s taken plenty of trial and error to get here, but I’d do it all again. We’re still learning, still creating new workshops and still finding things we can’t wait to share.
